Falmouth Rogue’s 2020 kit!

Rogue-2020 kit to share

We like to have a LOT of fun with our uniforms here at Falmouth Rogue and have been lucky to work with some amazing local young artists who help bring our vision to life. Our uniforms are unique each year and help tell the Rogue story.

It’s not a bad idea to read last year’s uniform post for the complete backstory. In short though, each year we have a new nemesis fronting our uniforms, with the Rogue crew on the back battling it out. Each year the Rogue crew has gotten larger as former foes see the Rogue light and join up. This year is no different with the 2019 leopard now sporting a Rogue uniform alongside the captain, the crab, the octopus, the tropical bird, and, of course, the magical sentient Rogue ship.

And who could forget our favorite new derpy snake, taking to the air with some assistance from a sea gull?

And is that a narwhal!? You bet it is.

😀

Roll Falmouth Rogue!

HUGE thanks to artist John Rioux for his stellar work on this.

Our new jersey design! 2019’s uniform kit sticks to the jungle

rogue jersey 2019 full sized

It’s a new year, and in Rogue country, that means it’s time for a new uniform design! We use our uniforms every year to not only differentiate ourselves on the field from our opponents, but to also tell the story of our team. Being the new sport in a town where the school mascot is the Yachtsmen, we adopted the name Falmouth Rogue back in 2016, the first year we ventured out and printed full sublimation jerseys, a type of printing that allows us to use every part of the shirt for our design.

In that first year’s shirt, we see a vicious sea monster fighting against the valiant Rogue ship and its hook-handed pirate captain. The next year, 2017, having seen the Rogue light, that sea monster has joined with the captain and the Rogue ship to take on a new foe- the giant crab. In 2018, the crab joined up Rogue similarly and the whole crew was fighting on the jungle beaches against a beautiful tropical bird.

This year, you guessed it- the bird has joined Rogue! Now our expanded cast of Rogue characters- the pirate, the Rogue ship, the tropical bird, the giant crab, and the octopus sea monster are facing off against a powerful jungle cat on the banks of a piranha-infested river. Yikes!

This year is the second year our uniforms have featured a female character, reflecting our co-ed team, making the overall gender balance of the Rogue pantheon at two girls- the tropical bird and jungle cat, and three boys- the captain, the crab, and the octopus, leaving next year’s anticipated female character to balance things out. Oh, and the non-gendered Rogue ship!

Next year will be the last year we add a new character. After that, we’ll have the Rogue ship, the captain, and a line of five players- the octopus, the crab, the tropical bird, the jungle cat, and next year’s female character. At that point, having established all of our Rogue characters, we’ll make some kind of interesting visual style change- that will be in the 2021 season.

HUGE thanks to illustrator John Rioux, who is a former Falmouth student now going to school in Boston who stepped in to draw this year’s shirt. We’ve been lucky to have fellow former Falmouth student Joey Han (and a member of the very first FMS ultimate team back in 2013) draw our shirts, but Joey was particularly swamped at college this year and handed over the illustration reigns to his friend John. Thanks for the fantastic recommendation Joey!

We’ll have uniforms back from the printer later in May! Roll Falmouth Rogue!

Evolution of our uniform

We take a lot of pride in our team kit and come up with a new design every season. There’s a story on and to our shirts and shorts.

Starting in 2016, our fourth as a team and my third as a coach, we stepped up into full sublimation printing with a beautiful design by then-high school student Joey Han, a member of the founding 2013 team. The 2016 design has a octopus sea monster fighting off the brave Rogue ship and its giant one-handed pirate captain.

In 2017, that octopus monster had seen the Rogue light and joined in with the Rogue ship and captain to take the battle underwater against a new nemesis, a giant crab monster. Notice that in 2017, the back-of-the-shirt characters are wearing the jerseys from 2016. That’s an ongoing theme now.

This year we had our first female character (as we are a co-ed team) in our tropical bird set on a tropical island. Now the back-of-the-shirt team features the captain, the Rogue ship, and the crab and octopus monsters. Again, they’re wearing last year’s kit.

I’m still mulling over what next year’s shirts will be but really love all the bright colors of this year’s design, so I’m looking at particularly colorful animals.

Right now we have five characters in our team pantheon- the captain, the Rogue ship, the octopus and crab monsters, and the tropical bird. We’re going to go two more years to get a full line of seven characters before shifting visual styles.
